The self-acclaimed United Nations (UN) Global Envoy, Kwame Fordjour, popularly known as ‘Dr. ‘The UN’ was arrested.
He was detained by plain-clothed police personnel from Asokore-Mampong on the premises of the Kumasi-based Hello-FM.
Last month, for all the wrong reasons,’ Dr. UN’ was described as one of the greatest conmen in the annals of the entertainment history of the nation.
A ‘diplomat’ and ‘global ambassador’ by self-description, Fordjour performed a scam on a scale almost never experienced in the country, with a doctoral degree that has its veracity as questionable as his personality.
Under the pretence of partnering with the United Nations and the revered legacy of the late Dr. Kofi Annan, he managed to arrange an award ceremony and presented trophies and citations to more than 20 accomplished Ghanaian personalities, who he described as having accomplished exceptional feats in their endeavours.
As one of the greatest frauds in the history of the world, he thus exceeded his own feat.
According to a report submitted by the correspondent of PeaceFM and the General Manager of HelloFM, Samson K. Nyamekye, ‘Dr. For quite some time now, after a fake award ceremony he organised at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, in the Ashanti region, the UN has been on the radar of security agencies.
He was arrested after the award scheme held in 2018 was revealed to be fraudulent and subsequently prosecuted by the Asokore-Mampong Magistrate Court.
The court, presided over by Portia M.A. Salia of Her Worship, later granted him bail.
But the court issued a warrant for his arrest after flouting his bail terms.
In view of this, when news emerged that Kwame Fordjour was in Hello FM’s studios, the security forces raided the location and later whisked him away in an unmarked saloon car.
‘Dr UN’ has been remanded into police custody, according to Samson Nyamkeye.
