“My Red Carpet Looks Don’t Break The Bank,” Said Nana Akua Addo

Renowned Ghanaian fashionista Nana Akua Addo has discussed her calculated approach to red carpet appearances, highlighting careful preparation and frugal spending.

She disclosed that she plans out her red carpet appearances months in advance, with a precise budget established before the year even begins.

She claims that her family participates in this budgeting process to make sure her glitzy appearances are financially feasible.

As Nana Akua Addo clarified in an interview with BBC Pidgin, outfit planning takes place over the course of a year.

“The credit isn’t mine alone,” she says, acknowledging the advice and suggestions of her creative team. I source the assets after my team and I have heated discussions and brainstorming sessions to decide on a look.”

She tackles events on Nigerian territory with the opulence of the Met Gala, but she keeps an eye on her spending. “Every year, I carefully consider how many red carpets I walk on. Considering the artistic originality I strive for, it’s similar to a production. However, I make sure that it doesn’t negatively affect others or my finances.”

“Being family-oriented, budgeting is crucial, and we talk about everything,” she said in closing. I avoid taking on too much. Rather, I allow enough time to carefully put together my ensembles, pacing myself so as not to put too much strain on myself.”

Like every other year, Nana Akua Addo was chosen as one of the best dressed at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs), which took place on May 11, 2024, in Lagos, Nigeria.
