It Will Take Ghana Two More Years To Sell Out The O2 Arena In Alordia.

According to Nii Ofori Tackie, also known as Alordia, the CEO of Ghana Music Awards UK, it will take two years for a Ghanaian singer to be able to sell out the highly anticipated O2 Arena in the United Kingdom.

This declaration follows the triumphant Indigo O2 performance on May 3, 2024, which was emceed by Ghanaian rapper Medikal.

A number of well-known Ghanaian musicians, including Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, and Bisa Kdei, performed at the sold-out concert.

The sold-out Legends Night performance with Highlife icon Daddy Lumba—who was joined on stage by Shatta Wale and Medikal—came next.

It will take one to two years of constant promotion to attract a wholly Ghanaian audience to come and support a concert hosted by a Ghanaian musician, Alordia noted in an interview on Joy Prime on May 7.

“We can build the O2 Arena, but it will take an additional 1.5 to 2 years. Ghanaians don’t come out all that often, but when they do, it’s for shows, he explained.

Alordia drew attention to the disparity in attendance between shows featuring Nigerian and Ghanaian performers.

He claimed that whereas Ghanaian concerts draw a small number of attendance, Nigerian events often draw larger crowds that include fans who are familiar with the musicians and their music from numerous African countries as well as the Caribbean.

Fans from other African nations, such as South Africa, Jamaica, Nigeria, Ghana, and Zimbabwe, show up to see Nigerian artists perform live because they connect with those nations through their music. They are familiar with the tunes. Thus, people would go as soon as they learn that Wizkid is arriving since they are familiar with his music,” he stated.

He said that drawing spectators from other nations would be necessary to pack a big arena like the O2 Arena. Ghanaian musicians would therefore need to market their songs to these nations.

“We must breach and enter their boundaries, only then will we be able to detect their approach,” he continued.
