Afro-dancehall musician Stonebwoy has shown empathy for the impacted patients by expressing worry about the growing expenses of kidney dialysis treatments at hospitals.
Stonebwoy expressed his sympathy for people impacted by a price increase that prevented patients at the Renal Unit of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital from receiving dialysis, as reported by GHOne.
According to the GHOne report, several patients were forced to forgo crucial treatments because they could not afford the increased rate for their twice-weekly sessions. Patients were taken aback by the abrupt hike in dialysis prices from GH¢380 to GH¢491.
Concerns over the potential health consequences of skipping these crucial sessions were also expressed by the patients.
Stonebwoy, however, has responded by pleading with the Ministry of Health to take action and think about covering the expenses in order to lessen the financial burden on those who suffer from renal disease.
“It’s never easy,” he tweeted, referencing @mohgovgh. If at all feasible, please check into this increment and let’s figure out how to subsidize the expense of dialysis.”
Following their earlier opposition to a pricing hike this year, the Renal Patients Association of Ghana has raised concern over the recent spike in dialysis costs.
With a population of 30.8 million, study published in BMC Health study Services estimates that 15,400 people in Ghana suffer from kidney failure.
