According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United are set to release Ghanaian winger Christian Atsu next summer.
On his present contract with the Magpies, Atsu has one year left and was connected with a move in the just-ended transfer window to several clubs.
Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce had to stop interest in the likes of Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the summer due to the earnings of fringe players in the North East, the newspaper reported.
This has prompted Newcastle to transfer the likes of Atsu, Henri Saviet, Rolando Aarons, and Achraf Lazaar, the Chronicle says, before the end of the EFL window deadline on Friday.
In addition , the article revealed that the source said that all four of their contracts expiring in the summer would not be renewed. That implies that in as little as 12 months, Atsu will be a free agent.
Meanwhile, for the 2020/21 season, the 28-year-old has been named in Newcastle United’s squad and will retain his No.30 jersey.
Astu joined Newcastle United from Chelsea in 2017 on a four-your deal and has since very limited playing time due to an injury he sustained while playing for the Black Star during the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019.
