Suhiyini: Akufo-Addo Refused To Sign The Anti-Gay Measure Because Of Lies

President Akufo-Addo has been accused by Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, the National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Tamale North Constituency in the Northern Region, of purposefully withholding his approval to the anti-gay bill following its adoption by Parliament.

According to Mr. Suhuyini, the President made his decision based on lies.

During a meeting at the Peduase Lodge, Mr. Suhuyini alleges that President Akufo-Addo misled the diplomatic corps by falsely claiming that certain Ghanaians had taken the bill to the Supreme Court for clarity.

He made it clear that the President had refused to sign the bill into law because of this falsehood.

Mr. Suhuyini further noted that during the bill’s drafting process in Parliament, the President provided suggestions through Mr. Godfred Yeboah Dame, his Attorney-General and Minister of Justice.

He mentioned that the final version of the bill included ninety percent of the Attorney-General’s suggestions.

On Thursday, July 4, 2024, the NDC lawmaker made these charges during a debate section on Kwame Dwomoh Agyeman’s Morning Show on Class 91.3 FM.

He urged the president and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to respect the people, claiming that the NPP sees politics as nothing more than disinformation.
