Former President Jerry John Rawlings received a turbulent welcome on Saturday at Hohoe when he visited to mourn with Energy Minister John Peter Amewu, who bid farewell to his late mother.
Former president who was in the company of his daughter Amina Rawlings, business mogul Kennedy Agyapong popularly known as Kenpong and boxing legend Azumah Nelson wanted to catch a glimpse of the enthusiastic crowd present at the gathering.
The sad and gloomy mourners were curiously excited at the sight of the NDC leader.
The applause and cheers got louder as Rawlings walked out of the Catholic Church of St. Augustine, where there was a final service for Ghana’s energy minister’s late daughter.
Rawlings welcomed the applause and smiled at the audience as a sign of appreciation for their warm treatment.
Popularly known as Nee Amewu-Duglu, the late Esther Dey died at the Tema General Hospital on August 12, 2019.

The deceased left behind her, husband, Venance Dey, and two daughters, Maira Dey and Christable Dey.
