After Taking A Strong Blow In His Debut Professional Fight, A Nigerian Boxer Passes Away.

Tragically, Nigerian boxer Sherif Lawal lost his life after being knocked out in his first-ever professional match.

On Sunday, May 11, 2024, Lawal made his professional debut at the Harrow Leisure Centre, facing Portuguese fighter Malam Varela. Lawal was fighting on behalf of the United Kingdom.

The 29-year-old fighter was knocked out in the fourth round, but his fight continued until the sixth. In the sixth round, he was hit hard enough to fall face first, necessitating emergency medical attention.

Lawal was regrettably declared deceased at the hospital after being taken there by paramedics in a timely manner.

The fight’s promoters, Warren Boxing Management, issued the following statement expressing their sincere regret: “Unfortunately, Sherif collapsed during the fight and was pronounced dead despite the best efforts of the paramedics.”

The British Boxing Board of Control sent their deepest condolences to Lawal’s family, saying, “We are saddened by Sherif Lawal’s untimely death. At this trying moment, all of us in the British boxing community are thinking of them,” the Guardian said.
