The University of Ghana Sports Stadium hosted the opening match of the 2024 WAFU Zone B Under-17 competition, which saw Ghana’s Under-17 squad, the Black Starlets, destroy Ivory Coast 5-1.

On May 15, 2024, a Wednesday, the game was played.

Joseph Narbi gave the squad, captained by former Black Stars winger Laryea Kingston, two goals in the first half.

After the break, Godfred Sarpong scored in the 48th minute to give the Black Starlets a third goal.

In the fifty-first minute, the Ivorians equalized to make the score 3-1.

In extra time, Mark Mensah scored the Black Starlets’ fifth and final goal, while Harve Gbafa headed in Ghana’s fourth.

The Black Starlets are committed to ending Ghana’s seven-year wait for U17 AFCON qualification.

The team’s goal is to advance to the 2025 U17 AFCON Championship by making it to the final of the WAFU Zone B Under-17 competition in 2024.
